Is it realistic ?

Why It Feels Like Everyone Else Has It Together (And You Don’t)

Do you ever look at other people and think they have it all together?
Like they’ve somehow figured out how to get everything done—and you just don’t know how they do it?

It can feel like you’re the only one struggling.
Like everyone else is coping better, managing more, being more.

But recently, I was talking to two of my friends… and we realised something.

We were all going through the exact same things.

The overwhelm.
The pressure.
The constant feeling of falling behind.

And yet, from the outside, we probably all looked like we had it together.

The Illusion We’re Comparing Ourselves To

Then there’s what we see everywhere else.

In movies and TV shows, mums seem to do it all.
They’re fully involved in school, always on top of projects, keeping a spotless home, decorating for every holiday, baking from scratch, remembering everything.

It looks effortless.

And whether we realise it or not, we absorb that.

We start to believe that this is the standard.
That this is what a “good mum” looks like.

So when our reality doesn’t match that image, we feel like we’re failing.

Social Media Doesn’t Help Either

Scroll for five minutes and you’ll see: Perfectly tidy homes.
Organised routines.
Happy kids doing crafts.
Colour-coded planners and calm mornings.

What you don’t see is: The meltdown before the photo.
The mess just outside the frame.
The exhaustion behind the smile.

We’re comparing our real, messy lives to someone else’s highlight reel.

And that will always make us feel like we’re not enough.

The Pressure to Be Everything

Somewhere along the way, the expectation became that we should be everything, all at once:

The organised one
The patient one
The fun one
The present one
The one who keeps the house together
The one who never drops the ball

It’s too much.

No one can hold all of that, all of the time, without feeling overwhelmed.

The Truth We Don’t Talk About Enough

Behind closed doors, most of us are struggling in some way.

We’re tired.
We’re stretched thin.
We’re doing our best with limited time, energy, and patience.

That mum you think has it all together?
She probably has days where she feels exactly like you do.

We’re just not talking about it enough.

You’re Not Falling Behind

You’re not behind.
You’re not failing.
You’re living a real life that doesn’t look like a perfectly edited version.

Some days are messy.
Some days you’re snappy.
Some days the house is chaos and dinner is whatever’s easiest.

That doesn’t make you a bad mum.
It makes you a human one.

What If “Having It Together” Isn’t Real?

What if no one actually has it all together?

What if what we’re chasing isn’t even real—but just a collection of expectations we’ve picked up along the way?

And what if instead of trying to reach that impossible standard…
we created one that actually works for us?

One that includes rest.
Grace.
Messy days.
And doing what you can—not everything you should.

A Small Shift That Changes Everything

Next time you catch yourself thinking,
“Everyone else is doing better than me…”

Pause and remind yourself:

You’re only seeing part of the picture.

Then ask yourself: “What do I actually need today?”

Not what looks good.
Not what other people are doing.
Just what will make today feel a little bit easier.

Maybe No One Has It All Together

And maybe… that’s okay.

Maybe we’re not meant to have everything perfectly balanced and under control.

Maybe we’re just meant to show up, do our best, and keep going—even on the messy days.

Because the truth is, you’re doing more than you think.

And you’re not the only one feeling this way.

Not even close.
